Situation
This project was created for Google's UX Design Certification program. Budgeteer was designed to help users easily create a budgeting plan. Being the first project in the course, this would be Jack's first project in Figma and UX Design.
Timeline
After completing user and market research, Jack began making paper wireframes. Jack created a list of functions needed for the product and, after many iterations, created a finalized concept that would be made in a digital format.
The digital wireframe for Budgeteer would be completed and tested for functionality. Users would point out problems related to the app's interface and understanding certain functions.
The low-fidelity prototype would begin with Jack focusing on improving where the app fell flat for users and then improving the visual design of the app.
After another round of user research highlighted both positive and negative feedback related to the current prototype. Although users were positive when it came to the overall flow of the app, they were negative when it came to the lack of customization related to setting deadlines for budgeting plans.
The issues found in the low-fidelity prototype would be fixed in the high-fidelity prototype. After one final review, the product was finished.
Takeaways
This project was a major learning experience for Jack. He learned a lot about aspects of visual design, including spacing, typography, and color palettes. As time went on, he understood the importance of each and worked in a way that would improve the design over the course of the design process. He would also learn about "stickersheets" during this process. However, he learned it at a point where it wasn't as impactful, but he still understands how helpful it can be. Overall, Jack is happy with the final results of his first project and is excited to implement what he learned into his next project.
